Speakers: Dr. Renu Singh & Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian
Dr. Renu Singh is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown Law and a 2017-18 Fulbright scholar at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. Starting in January 2021, she will be a Research Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Her research interests include the relationship between political institutions, public opinion, and policy change in the context of public health and health policy.
Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian is Dean, and Jean Mayer Professor at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and Professor of Medicine at Tufts Medical School. His research fields include dietary priorities for obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, and evidence-based policy approaches and innovations to reduce these burdens in the US and globally. He has served in numerous advisory roles including for the US and Canadian governments, American Heart Association, World Health Organization, and United Nations.
Health is not only a question of individual decisions but much more a matter of political measures creating the optimal nutrition environment. These measures on the population level are subject to the field of Public Health Nutrition (PHN). This webinar introduces the audience to PHN, discusses the effectiveness and evidence as well as barriers that potentially hinder the success of such activities. Finally, this webinar will show possibilities for health professionals to engage with PHN aims.
